Producer: | Hacienda Monasterio is located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, in the Golden Mile in the province of Valladolid. In addition to the old Tinto Fino vines (Tempranillo), the French grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec also thrive on the calcareous soils in smaller quantities. They give the wine a special structure. Peter Sisseck is one of the world's best oenologists and has been responsible for Hacienda Monasterio since 1990. He is supported by a team around the enologist Carlos de la Fuente, with whom he has worked since the beginning. The recipe for success: separate vinification of the grape varieties, temperature-controlled fermentation, gentle clarification with protein and eighteen-month aging in oak barrels. The result: a deep-colored, spicy and complex wine that can age for several years! Sisseck marked with the Crianza 2011 the end of the era of alcoholic wines. The foundation stone he laid with the most careful work and yield restriction already in the vineyard. Year after year, he convinces with his plants also wine pope Robert Parker, who rewards all qualities with top marks again and again. |
Region | The Ribera del Duero comprises about 12,000 hectares of vineyards. There is a temperate continental climate with slight Atlantic influences. It is raining very little. The summers are very hot with temperatures up to 40 degrees and sudden cooling in the night. The humidity also contributes to the frequent fog formation in the Douro Valley. Gentle curved hills and high plateaus (700 - 800 m above sea level) on both sides of the Douro River with light soils and a lime content of up to 18% fulfill optimal growing conditions. |
