Producer: | Three wine lovers founded the Bodegas Carramimbre in Peñafiel, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero wine-growing region. The winery grew steadily and now there are 50 hectares of vineyards in their possession. The best Pago is called "Carramimbre" and is mostly planted with Tempranillo and some Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The grapes are hand-picked and vinified. Many journalists in Spain have recently become aware of the Bodegas Carramimbre wines and encourage the three friends on their way. |
Region | The Ribera del Duero comprises about 12,000 hectares of vineyards. There is a temperate continental climate with slight Atlantic influences. It is raining very little. The summers are very hot with temperatures up to 40 degrees and sudden cooling in the night. The humidity also contributes to the frequent fog formation in the Douro Valley. Gentle curved hills and high plateaus (700 - 800 m above sea level) on both sides of the Douro River with light soils and a lime content of up to 18% fulfill optimal growing conditions. |
