Producer: | The winery Demara has been in the possession of the Mateos de la Higuera family for over 60 years. The philosophy of the family is to garnish only the best quality grapes from their own vineyards in order to maintain the value and specific characteristics of the protected Denomination of Origin "La Mancha". Under the sounding name "Vega Demara" new wines were cultivated which may carry the label La Mancha. The brothers Mateos de la Higuera have managed to combine the traditions of their parents and grandparents with the latest technologies and knowledge in modern viticulture to produce quality wines, which have now found a large following. |
Region | Europe's largest closed wine-growing region lies in the heart of Spain. Around the year 2005, the vineyard area of D.O. La Mancha over 192'000 hectares of arid plateau, from the satellite towns south of Madrid to the mountains Valdepeñas almost 200km further to the south. About 300 wineries produce around 100 million liters of wine each year. In the region, especially strong red wines from Merlot and Tempranillo are produced. The Moors called this landscape Manxa (dried land), an apt description for Castilla-La Mancha. |
