Producer: | The winery La Gatta - family Triacca: In its 500-year history the former place of pilgrimage has seen many owners: the Dominican Order, the noble noble family De Gatti from the Comasco, the grape grower Mascioni from the Puschlav. The Triacca family, who immigrated to the Engadine in the 1950s, have never lost touch with their Italian homeland. This is why the traditional wine family also owns land in Tuscany, in the heart of Chianti and Montepulciano. The fourth generation of the company is now managed by Luca and Giovanni Triacca. Since 1969, La Gatta belongs to the family Triacca. It has made of it something of a pilgrimage for wine lovers. A visit is worth seeing. New is the wine tasting concept and the opportunity to treat your little appetite to something from local production. The production cellar is located at Villa di Tirano, just 5 km from La Gatta. Under the technical direction of Luca Triacca there are 25 employees. |
Region | The Valtellina is experiencing a true renaissance, but few wine lovers have noticed it yet. The region is climatically extremely favored for the high-quality viticulture. The Nebbiolo grape feels just right on the granite floors of the steep terraces. A light wind rushes through the Valtellina almost every day and dries the grapes after a wet night, so the rottenness is almost a foreign thing in this region. The quality level is very high and the notorious * liter qualities * are a thing of the past. Valtellina, much praised since Roman times, is one of the few places outside Piedmont where the Nebbiolo grape thrives. Veltlin is the second largest producer of Nebbiolo grapes after Piedmont. |
Variety: | Nebbiolo |
Production | The grapes are fermented at controlled temperatures for 12 to 15 days to gain maximum flower and suppleness. The expansion extends over two years in a large wooden barrel made of Slovenian oak. |
