Description

Producer : The Cantina di Santadi was created in 1960 when a group of winegrowers in Sardinia came together to process their grapes together and sell the wine together. This is how the winery was born in Santadi, in the south-west of Sardinia, right in the heart of the Sulcis region. For the first 20 years of its existence, the winery limited itself to the production and sale of open wines and the name Santadi was simply not known outside of Sardinia. In the mid-1970s, the new board of directors, led by today's chairman Antonello Pilloni, slowly turned around. He led the winery to worldwide recognition and created well-known brands such as the Rocca Rubia or the Terre Brune.
Region: Wine growing has a long tradition in Sardinia. Between the 15th and 18th centuries, the Spaniards introduced new vines and cultivated vines in fields in the middle of old forests or between huge granite rocks, not far from the azure sea. It has been handed down that these were the Cannonau, Monica and Girò vines. The most valued wines on the island include the red Cannonau and the white Vermentino. The Cannonau vine is one of the oldest vines in the Mediterranean. The excellent Cannonau wine is made from it: A full-bodied, velvety red wine with balanced alcohol and tannin content, the full-bodied taste of which is known far beyond the Sardinia region today. The Sardinian grape varieties, spoiled by the sun and wind, produce full and velvety wines every year on approximately 43,000 hectares.
Grape variety : Carignano
Manufacture : Grape selection from very old vines, all of which are still cultivated according to the ancient cultivation method (vigna latina) and produce only very small quantities. The wine matures in small oak barrels for 8-12 months and is very storable.
Degustationsnotiz: Dark berries currently dominate the first impression. The animal wildness of Carignano lurks right behind. Leather, a juicy, fresh steak, chocolate. Dense and full in taste with a fascinating balance between tannin and full-bodied. A complex red with a long smooth finish.
Drinkability : year + 5 years
Enjoy: Fried meat dishes made from game, lamb and beef, aged cheese.
