Producer : | Hannes Reeh from Lake Neusiedl in Austria is an unconventional wine maker - he cultivates a carefree lifestyle and yet pursues his ideas with determination. The first time we visited him we met a simply likeable guy. His personality can be found in his wines: an exciting mix of tradition, new world experience, belief in the future and Burgenland roots. With a lot of impartiality he does what he enjoys and is successful with it. The soils in Andau, on which Hannes' grapes thrive, are barren and result in wines that impress with their strength, fullness and maturity. "Unplugged" - borrowed from the music world - Hannes calls his wines, which he creates without much frills but with a feeling for the rhythm of nature. That is pure nature: Without fining agents, without enzymes, without cultivated yeasts or unnecessary filtration - "Just Unplugged!". |
Region: | The climate in Burgenland is characterized by cold, low-snow winters, hot, dry summers and a long, mild autumn. The Neusiedlersee acts as a climate regulator. Its surface softens the most extreme temperatures, creating ideal conditions for viticulture. The Burgenland wine region in Austria is divided into four wine regions. These are Neusiedlersee, Neusiedlersee-Hügelland, Mittelburgenland and Südburgenland. |
Grape variety : | Chardonnay, by the way, also called Morillon. |
Manufacture : | Read by hand and subsequent spontaneous fermentation in the INOX stainless steel tank. This Chardonnay is expanded in used and new barriques. As he puts it, his "Unplugged" wines are produced "without any frills, but with a great feeling for the rhythm of nature". That means: no pure yeast for fermentation, no enzymes, no fining agents and, in good years, no filtration. |
Degustationsnotiz: | The bouquet is dominated by exotic fruits such as pineapple, mango and ripe bananas, elegantly backed by nutmeg and butterscotch; vanilla stems broken open on the palate, butter bisque and honey, wonderfully accessible and juicy, the body is mouth-filling, but with a fine minerality. |
Drinkability : | year + 5 years |
Enjoy: | A wonderful companion to grilled fish, shellfish such as lobster and scampi. Goes well with Asian cuisine, but not too spicy and refined. Finest pasta and white truffle. Just like that and after dinner - this Chardonnay can do without a kitchen. A delicacy. |
