Producer : | In 1680, Jean Lillet, who comes from Saint-Morillon in the Gironde department, settled in the village of Podensac in the Les Graves wine region near Sauternes. In 1872, his descendants Raymond and Paul Lillet, who sell fine wines, liqueurs and spirits, founded the company Maison Lillet. From a collection of Bordeaux wines and fruit liqueurs, which are handcrafted in the Podensac winery, they develop Lillet, the first and only aperitif from Bordeaux (until the 1970s * called Kina Lillet *). Lillet will soon be drunk on big occasions and official receptions and will quickly become fashionable all over the world. French artist Robert Wolff, better known by his stage name Robys, created the first large Lillet advertising campaign for the American market in 1937. From 1945, the British market also flourished with the introduction of Lillet Dry. Lillet Dry is mixed with gin or in cocktails. Later the famous cocktail Vesper was created. At the initiative of Pierre Lillet, the product range was expanded in 1962 with Lillet Rouge. The ruby-red aperitif tastes stronger than its white colleague and appeals to Lillet and red wine fans alike. In 1972, the “Lillet Vieux” vintage 1961 aperitif was launched. For customs reasons, Kina Lillet is already called "Lillet" in the United States. The name is officially launched around the world. In 1999 Lillet was one of the 100 best-selling brands in France and can now be found in almost every bar! |
