Producer : | In the municipality of Peñafiel, in the middle of the Ribera del Duero wine region, three wine friends founded Bodegas Carramimbre in 1997. The bodega grew continuously and now owns around 50 hectares of vineyards. The best pago is called "Carramimbre" and is mostly planted with Tempranillo and some Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in a modern way. Many journalists in Spain have recently become aware of the wines from Bodegas Carramimbre and are encouraging the three friends on their way. |
Region: | The Ribera del Duero comprises around 12,000 hectares of vineyards. There is a temperate continental climate with slight influences from the Atlantic. It rains very little. Summers are very hot with temperatures up to 40 degrees and sudden cooling at night. The humidity also contributes to the most common fog formation in the Duero Valley. Gently curving hills and plateaus (700 - 800 m above sea level) on both sides of the Duero river with light soils and a lime content of up to 18% fulfill optimal cultivation conditions. |
Grape variety : | Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), Cabernet Sauvignon |
Manufacture : | Hand-picked and subsequent fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wines are aged in American (40%) and French (60%) oak for 12 months. Here again only a small amount of new wood, so that the roasted aromas do not leave too strong traces. |
Degustationsnotiz: | A seductive nose of cinnamon, tobacco, vanilla and bewitchingly ripe fruits. On the palate with an initially powerful start, then soft and harmonious, spicy and ripe, again a lot of boiled fruit and with a wine-sweet finish. It is long and comfortable. |
Drinkability : | year + 6 years |
Enjoy: | Fondue chinoise, fondue bourguignonne, bratwurst and rösti go perfectly. Grilled fish from the sea. Younger alp cheese. Paella with or without meat, only with fish - yes that is also possible. Cold and warm tapas. Tortilla preferably fresh and warm from the pan. Jamon Iberico, Chorizo and also Lomo are very suitable. |
Awards: | Decanter Asia Wine Awards 2018: Silver Medal |
